TOPIC: "Transference: A Treasure in Disguise" SPEAKER: Judith Barr, LPC, LMHC DATE: 10/6/12 PLACE: The Mental Health Association, 29 Sterling Avenue, White Plains, NY TIME: 9:00 - Practice Meetings 10:00 - Networking and Refreshments 10:15 - Chapter Business Meeting 10:45- Noon Presentation ******************************************* DESCRIPTION Few psychotherapists are really taught about transference in depth, "up close and personal." Some clinicians come to think of transference as problematic and pass this attitude onto their clients. Even seasoned therapists who do value and utilize transference can benefit from learning more about this phenomenon from a new perspective. This presentation will help participants deepen their understanding and appreciation of transference as a source for caring and healing. We will define transference, identify the link between an early decision and transference, describe the connection between an individual's transference and the impact of transference on our world, and learn to view transference as a treasure in disguise. SPEAKER Judith Barr is the author of "Power Abused, Power Healed." In practice for over 30 years, Ms. Barr maintains a private practice in Brookfield, CT, where she works with individuals and groups, and offers training workshops to professionals.
